FAQs

Definitely yes. The Mekong River is among the world's best enchanting river cruise destinations. Why is it worth it?

  • Scenic riverscape: Cruising is the most fascinating way to get closer to the tranquil waters, floating villages, and lush mangroves.
  • Relaxation & comfort: Mekong River ships offer well-appointed cabins, cozy lounges, and spacious decks where you can enjoy your comfort in mind and body.
  • Off-the-beaten-path route: From 2 to 11 days, the cruise itinerary will let you admire all the hidden gems of the mighty Mekong, including local workshops, floating markets, fruit orchards, temples & pagodas, etc.
  • Cultural immersion: Let's take a chance to engage in the traditional life on waterways, unique cultures from diverse countries, and genuine people.

The best month to take a Mekong River cruise is from November to April next year, an ideal time during the dry season. There are lower chances of rain and cooler temperatures. So that you can enjoy offboard activities and beautiful sightseeing.

The cruise starting points depend on the countries you want to discover. You can follow the list beyond to know where you will start your Mekong River journey.

  • Vietnam: Can Tho, Ho Chi Minh City
  • Cambodia: Phnom Penh, Siem Reap
  • Laos: Luang Prabang, Huay Xai

Both low water (mid-Nov to end-Aug) and high water (end-Aug to mid-Nov) have similar onshore excursions but the sequence may differ.

The main distinction is that the water levels only influence the itinerary in Cambodia (between Siem Reap and Phnom Penh), while the Vietnam itinerary is unchanged.

In particular, Mekong River cruises can make a lake crossing in the high-water season and visit many attractions in Tonle Sap. Ships can also dock directly at the Siem Reap pier. During low water season, the dock will be located at Kampong Cham.

Note: The exact dates of the high and low seasons are determined by rainfall and water levels each year. Mekong cruise lines will adjust their schedules on short notice.

The dresscode for Mekong River cruise is lightweight and smart casual clothes. To be more specific, you should take notice of these followings:

  • Choose summer and autumn outfits due to the tropical climate in Mekong
  • Dress "more than casual," such as a collared shirt for men and a dressy top for women, on some special nights
  • Wear comfortable shoes or sandals since you have to walk on uneven surfaces and cobblestones during offshore excursions

The ideal cruise length depends on your travel goals and schedule. Each option offers a rich mix of culture, landscapes, and local life along Southeast Asia’s iconic waterway.

  • 2–3 days (from CA$294): Great for a short, scenic trip through Vietnam’s Mekong Delta.
  • 4–7 days (from CA$844): A popular choice for Canadians, covering key highlights between Vietnam and Cambodia.
  • 8–11 days (from CA$2,349): Perfect for travelers looking to explore the Upper Mekong through Laos and northern Thailand in more depth.

Mekong River cruises vary in price depending on duration and cruise style. On average, expect to pay between CAD 265 and CAD 6,200 per person, estimated price ranges:

  • 1–2 nights: From CAD 265 - CAD 1,220
  • 3–6 nights: From CAD 900 - CAD 6,200
  • 7–9 nights: From CAD 1,940 - CAD 6,230
  • Over 9 nights: From CAD 3,570

Cruise fares usually include accommodation, meals, and guided excursions; whilte visa fees, premium drinks, and extras may not be included.

Travelers looking for a memorable journey along the Mekong River have several outstanding cruise options, each offering a unique blend of culture, comfort, and adventure. Here are five of the best:

  • RV Mekong Princess – From CAD 1,179 (3–8 days): A luxurious small ship renowned for its personalized service and elegant décor.
  • Mekong Eyes Classic – From CAD 294 (2–3 days): A budget-friendly wooden boat that cruises the Mekong Delta in Vietnam.
  • RV Mekong Navigator – From CAD 1,577 (4–8 days): A boutique cruise that blends colonial elegance with modern comfort.
  • Victoria Mekong Cruise – From CAD 1,560 (5–8 days): A newer ship featuring excellent onboard facilities, local cuisine, and guided excursions.
  • Song Xanh Sampan – From CAD 573 (2–3 days): A private sampan offering an intimate and flexible itinerary through the Mekong Delta.

Yes, many Mekong River cruise packages can be customized with pre- and post-cruise tours to enhance your travel experience.

Whether you'd like to explore Ho Chi Minh City, Siem Reap, Luang Prabang, or other destinations before or after your cruise, most cruise operators and travel agencies offer flexible add-on tour options. These may include city tours, cultural excursions, food experiences, or even beach holidays in Vietnam or Thailand.

Mekong Eyes Classic Cruise 3 Days: Cai Be - Can Tho | 28/03/2026

Hi Anna, sorry for the late response. Being on the Mekong was great, indeed! Price performance was not so OK. The boat is very old and will be replaced next year. (Rooms are very small, you cannot even unpack a suitcase, it’s dripping from the ceiling, etc.) It would have been sufficient to stay there… More

Great experience booking a cruise and associated guided tours

We used BestPriceTravel to book us a 7-night cruise from Vietnam to Cambodia and also sort of guided trips at either end in Ho Chi Minh and Siem Reap.
Ms. Nhung looked after all of our requirements very well, with excellent communication. I highly recommend booking through her!

Hi, as there's no room with 3 separated beds on Peony Cruise, if you are ok with 2 beds (1 double + 1 single), so the Family Premium Balcony cabin is just for you. Or else, you can book 2 Deluxe Balcony Cabin (01 with twin beds + 01 with double bed), we'll note with the cruise staff for 2 rooms next to each other.

Hi. I am interested in the Golden Pearl room. Is the shower visible from the bed? Do you have a curtain or blinds for the glass between the shower and bed?

Hi there! Don't worry, there are blinds inside the bathroom, they can cover the glass perfectly if you want.

@Siegharda Urwin:
