FAQs
Definitely yes. The Mekong River is among the world's best enchanting river cruise destinations. Why is it worth it?
- Scenic riverscape: Cruising is the most fascinating way to get closer to the tranquil waters, floating villages, and lush mangroves.
- Relaxation & comfort: Mekong River ships offer well-appointed cabins, cozy lounges, and spacious decks where you can enjoy your comfort in mind and body.
- Off-the-beaten-path route: From 2 to 11 days, the cruise itinerary will let you admire all the hidden gems of the mighty Mekong, including local workshops, floating markets, fruit orchards, temples & pagodas, etc.
- Cultural immersion: Let's take a chance to engage in the traditional life on waterways, unique cultures from diverse countries, and genuine people.
The best month to take a Mekong River cruise is from November to April next year, an ideal time during the dry season. There are lower chances of rain and cooler temperatures. So that you can enjoy offboard activities and beautiful sightseeing.
The cruise starting points depend on the countries you want to discover. You can follow the list beyond to know where you will start your Mekong River journey.
- Vietnam: Can Tho, Ho Chi Minh City
- Cambodia: Phnom Penh, Siem Reap
- Laos: Luang Prabang, Huay Xai
Both low water (mid-Nov to end-Aug) and high water (end-Aug to mid-Nov) have similar onshore excursions but the sequence may differ.
The main distinction is that the water levels only influence the itinerary in Cambodia (between Siem Reap and Phnom Penh), while the Vietnam itinerary is unchanged.
In particular, Mekong River cruises can make a lake crossing in the high-water season and visit many attractions in Tonle Sap. Ships can also dock directly at the Siem Reap pier. During low water season, the dock will be located at Kampong Cham.
Note: The exact dates of the high and low seasons are determined by rainfall and water levels each year. Mekong cruise lines will adjust their schedules on short notice.
The dresscode for Mekong River cruise is lightweight and smart casual clothes. To be more specific, you should take notice of these followings:
- Choose summer and autumn outfits due to the tropical climate in Mekong
- Dress "more than casual," such as a collared shirt for men and a dressy top for women, on some special nights
- Wear comfortable shoes or sandals since you have to walk on uneven surfaces and cobblestones during offshore excursions
It depends on how much of the region you'd like to explore. Each option provides a unique experience, from floating markets to ancient temples and rural life along the river.
- 2–3 days are perfect for a short getaway through Vietnam’s Mekong Delta.
- 4–8 days offer a well-rounded journey between Vietnam and Cambodia, ideal for first-time visitors.
- 9–11 days suit those seeking a deeper, more immersive cruise through Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand.
The cost of a Mekong River cruise depends on the duration and level of comfort. On average, prices range from €180 to €4,200 per person.
Here’s a general guide based on cruise length:
- 1–2 nights: From €180 to €845
- 3–6 nights: From €625 to €4,200
- 7–9 nights: From €1,500 to €4,250
- Over 9 nights: From €2,465
Most cruises include onboard accommodation, meals, and guided excursions. Visa fees, premium drinks, and optional extras may not be included, so it’s best to check details before booking.
Those seeking a balance of cultural immersion, comfort, and charm will find these top 5 Mekong cruises especially appealing:
- Heritage Line Jahan – From €1,109 (3–7 nights): A refined colonial-style vessel offering an elegant journey between Vietnam and Cambodia.
- RV Mekong Navigator – From €995 (3–7 nights): A European-style luxury cruise, known for its attentive service and curated shore excursions.
- Song Xanh Sampan – From €520 (1–2 nights): A private cruise through the hidden canals of the Mekong Delta.
- RV La Marguerite – From €1,152 (7 nights): Stylish comfort with French-inspired design, offering a seamless journey between Saigon and Siem Reap.
- Mekong Eyes Classic – From €186 (2–3 nights): A charming, budget-friendly wooden boat—great for short Mekong Delta getaways.
If you need help planning, our team is happy to help you compare options and tailor a cruise that fits your preferences and travel dates.
Whether you choose an upstream or downstream cruise, both offer exceptional cultural immersion and scenic views along the Mekong. However, the direction can influence the pace and logistics of your trip:
Upstream cruises (from Vietnam to Cambodia or Laos) generally offer a slower, more relaxed pace. They typically start in Ho Chi Minh City, a well-connected hub with frequent international flights, and end in places like Phnom Penh or Siem Reap—perfect if you’d like to add on a visit to Angkor Wat.
Downstream cruises (from Cambodia or Laos to Vietnam) cover slightly more ground in less time. These often begin in Siem Reap or Luang Prabang, ending in Ho Chi Minh City, which makes it convenient for onward travel or flights home.
Consider your preferred arrival and departure cities, as well as available flight routes. While both cruise directions offer similar itineraries, many travellers prefer starting in Vietnam due to better flight connections and visa processing.
Yes, many Mekong River cruise packages can be customized with pre- and post-cruise tours to enhance your travel experience.
Whether you'd like to explore Ho Chi Minh City, Siem Reap, Luang Prabang, or other destinations before or after your cruise, most cruise operators and travel agencies offer flexible add-on tour options. These may include city tours, cultural excursions, food experiences, or even beach holidays in Vietnam or Thailand.
Tip: It's best to plan your custom tours when booking your cruise to secure availability, especially during peak seasons. Please contact us for a seamless itinerary tailored to your interests, timeframe, and budget.

Questions & Answers (7488)
Hi there, We are travelling with our 20 year old daughter. We want a room with 3 beds. Which one would be best for 3 adults? Thank you Vicki Goodman
Hi, as there's no room with 3 separated beds on Peony Cruise, if you are ok with 2 beds (1 double + 1 single), so the Family Premium Balcony cabin is just for you. Or else, you can book 2 Deluxe Balcony Cabin (01 with twin beds + 01 with double bed), we'll note with the cruise staff for 2 rooms next to each other.
What cruises are available late june early july 2026
This boat doesnt operate during summer time.
Hi. I am interested in the Golden Pearl room. Is the shower visible from the bed? Do you have a curtain or blinds for the glass between the shower and bed?
Hi there! Don't worry, there are blinds inside the bathroom, they can cover the glass perfectly if you want.
How many people participate on your tours?
Our Join package start from 2 - max 17 passenger.

Being on the Mekong was great, indeed! Price performance was not so OK. The boat is very old and will be replaced next year. (Rooms are very small, you cannot even unpack a suitcase, it’s dripping from the ceiling, etc.) It would have been sufficient to stay there one night, because the main attraction to see the floating market was very disappointing. We arrived there when the market was nearly closed. The fellow travel guides (we had two, one for each day) only talked to one during the excursions. The two did not agree on the advance, so what was said was partly repeated. Less
I am really happy. I also spoke with the Director, Manager, and a few other staff members. Overall, we prefer this ship over the Viking.
We used BestPriceTravel to book us a 7-night cruise from Vietnam to Cambodia and also sort of guided trips at either end in Ho Chi Minh and Siem Reap.
Ms. Nhung looked after all of our requirements very well, with excellent communication. I highly recommend booking through her!
We had a 7-day cruise on the Jahan Heritage Line.
Despite a few mix-ups with my original booking, she was always very helpful and answered any correspondence quickly.
The meals were amazing with excellent choices and presentation. All the staff were courteous and respectful, and we had a good rapport with a lot of them.
The boat is very comfortable and relaxing.
Yes, we are enjoying it. The food is excellent.
The floating markets in Can Tho were underwhelming; I had read they are what they used to be, so that's no reflection on the tour.
